Oocyte cryopreservation is a fertility preservation method in which oocytes
a woman\u2019s oocytes are frozen at very low temperatures for future use. When the
woman wishes to become pregnant, the oocytes are thawed and fertilized in the
laboratory.
The process lasts 10\u201312 days, is simple, and is carried out as follows:<\/p>

  • \u00a0Hormonal stimulation is administered for 8\u201312 days<\/li>
  • \u00a0monitoring through ultrasound examinations and hormonal tests, with the aim of
    producing multiple oocytes<\/li>
  • \u00a0the process is completed with oocyte retrieval\u2014a short procedure performed under sedation\u2014followed by
    oocyte cryopreservation.<\/li><\/ul>

    The oocytes remain available to the woman until the age permitted by law
    to undergo in vitro fertilization (currently, the legal age limit is 54 years).
    Oocyte cryopreservation is performed for medical or social reasons. Specifically,

    Sperm cryopreservation is a simple and effective method of preserving male
    fertility, in which sperm is frozen for future use.
    The process involves the following steps:<\/p>

    • a semen sample is collected after 2\u20134 days of abstinence.<\/li>
    • \u00a0The sample is analyzed (quality assessment \u2013 sperm count and motility), and
      laboratory processing of the sample (addition of special cryoprotective substances),<\/li>
    • \u00a0it is then frozen at very low temperatures (-196\u00b0C) and
      stored for years.<\/li><\/ul>

      Sperm cryopreservation is recommended:<\/p>

      • before medical treatments (chemotherapy or radiotherapy)<\/li>
      • before testicular surgery<\/li>
      • in occupations with a high risk of sperm damage<\/li>
      • in cases of poor sperm quality<\/li>
      • in cases where the man is unavailable during the assisted
        reproduction treatment<\/li>
      • as part of preventive sperm preservation at a young age.<\/li><\/ul>


        Sperm can be stored for many years without significant deterioration.
        The advantages of the procedure are:<\/p>

        • that it is simple and quick<\/li>
        • preserves fertility for the future<\/li>
        • and protects male fertility before medical treatments.<\/li><\/ul>


          Oocyte and sperm preservation offer the possibility of \u201cfreezing\u201d fertility<\/strong>
          at a younger age \u2013 flexibility in family planning \u2013 safety before medical<\/strong>
